Live blog setup — real-time breaking news coverage

Cover breaking news in real time with multiple contributors, embedded media, and automatic social distribution.

5 min read

Start a live blog

From the dashboard, click "+ New story" → "Live blog". Give it a headline (the topic of coverage), set the time of the first scheduled update if you know it, and click Publish to make the live page available immediately.

Add updates in real time

Each update is its own short post within the live blog. Type the update text, optionally add an image / video / tweet embed, and click "Publish update". Updates appear instantly on the live page without a full refresh.

Multiple contributors

Invite teammates to the live blog from the right sidebar. Anyone added can post updates simultaneously — Journalify handles ordering by timestamp. Use the @mention feature in updates to coordinate.

Mobile reporting

The mobile app supports full live-blog publishing including photo upload from the phone camera. Field reporters can post updates directly from the scene without flagging through a desk.

Distribution

  • Push notifications can fire on every update or only "breaking" ones
  • Auto-tweet new updates with custom hashtag
  • RSS feed updates within seconds
  • Embed the live blog in any external site via the embed code

Closing the live blog

When coverage ends, click "Close live blog". The page becomes a static archive (no more updates) but stays accessible at the same URL. Optionally add a closing summary.
