Common errors — newsroom CMS troubleshooting guide
Quick diagnoses and fixes for the issues we see most often.
"Cannot publish — article missing required fields"
Your organisation's publishing checklist (Settings → Editorial → Required fields) flags missing data. The most common: missing meta description, missing alt text on the lead image, or no department assigned.
"Image upload failed"
- File size exceeds plan limit (Starter: 50 MB, Pro: 500 MB, Enterprise: 5 GB)
- Unsupported format — convert WebP/AVIF to JPG/PNG first
- Storage quota exceeded — check Settings → Billing
- Image filename contains special characters — rename to alphanumeric only
"AI suggestions not appearing"
Sage requires at least 200 characters of body content before generating suggestions. If your article is shorter, suggestions remain hidden. The AI also goes silent if your tenant has hit its monthly AI quota — contact your admin to upgrade if so.
"Cannot log in — Google sign-in fails"
- Your Google account email must match exactly the email you were invited with
- Workspace MFA must be enabled on your @yourdomain — talk to your IT admin
- Check that your account is still active in Settings → Team (admin only)
- Try an incognito window to rule out browser cache / cookie issues
"Workflow transition disabled"
Either you don't have permission to make that transition, or the article doesn't meet the transition's prerequisites (e.g. needs at least one approved image attached). The button tooltip explains which.
"Migration import incomplete"
Open Atlas → Migrations → your migration job → "Failures" tab. Common causes: malformed XML in source export, broken image URLs at the source, characters outside UTF-8. Each failure has a row-level explanation.
